An Old Name Helps a New Business

Mark F. Rockefeller, the younger of the two sons of Nelson Rockefeller and his second wife Happy, has abandoned his family's traditional businesses -- oil, banking and finance. But Mr. Rockefeller, 35, is not abandoning his family name, which can come in quite handy.

Mr. Rockefeller, a former investment banker at Chase Securities and Morgan Stanley, has created an online venture with Princeton classmate, Bob Reif, President of Audible Marketing, that will match groups seeking sponsors -- like the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago -- with corporate sponsors like Sears, Roebuck. His partner is IEG, a research and consulting firm based in Chicago that specializes in sponsorships.
He acknowledges that the Rockefeller name "helps to a certain extent -- it will get attention, open doors and create certain opportunities."
